Is "American Horror Story" Coming to Provincetown?

Over the past few months, rumors have circulated regarding the possibility of the "American Horror Story" franchise filming its tenth season in Provincetown.

While an agreement between the town and series producers has yet to finalize, there's a very good chance we'll see this happen sometime in 2021.

This development could be good news for Provincetown and Cape Cod as a whole as it will put the region in the public eye. "American Horror Story" is consistently one of the cable television's most-watched shows and will bring some of Provincetown's top attractions to the forefront when it airs.

Here's a look at what we know so far about "American Horror Story" filming its tenth season in Provincetown.

What is "American Horror Story"?

"American Horror Story" is an anthology series airing on the FX network. Each season is like a miniseries with a unique storyline and featuring different sets of characters.

Some actors, notably Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, and Lily Rabe, appear in multiple seasons but play different characters every time.

The series has attracted big Hollywood names like Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Angela Basset, Denis O'Hare, and Kathy Bates for roles over the years, as well.

As for the storylines, every season has a different theme. The stories are frightening and sometimes based on actual events from the past. They generally take place in haunted locations, including areas in New Orleans, Los Angeles, North Carolina, Florida, and Michigan, with season ten potentially marking its second time in Massachusetts.

About Season Ten

Very little is presently known about season ten of "American Horror Story" except that it features the working title "Pilgrim". Therefore, we can assume that the series is coming to Provincetown to focus on its history as the location where the Pilgrims first landed on the East Coast.

We also know that the season will feature Macaulay Culkin of "Home Alone" fame and mark Kathy Bates' return to the franchise after a two-season absence.

The season is likely to occur in present-day Provincetown, rather than taking place in the past, because it appears to feature shots of bustling areas like Commercial Street.

Beyond that, Provincetown residents will have to wait and see how this anticipated season will portray their town.

Things to Expect in Provincetown

While the season's script has yet to be finalized, there is some information on potential filming sites available.

For instance, 20th Century Fox has listed well-known locations like Bradford Street, Commercial Street, Race Point Beach, and, of course, the Pilgrim Monument on its filming application.

Other lesser-known sites on the application include:

  • The Old Colony Path
  • Winthrop Street Cemetery
  • The West End breakwater
  • A section of Route 6 between Snail Road and Stotts Crossing

The specifics are to be determined, but one thing for sure is that series fans will get to see large pieces of Provincetown on their TV screens in 2021 if this plan comes to fruition.

Living in Provincetown

The film industry nothing new to Provincetown residents, as "Hightown", which airs on the Stars network, takes place in town, as well. Season two of the series is currently in post-production, and we could be witnessing Provincetown becoming a hot commodity in the film and television industry.

As for "American Horror Story", Provincetown residents will be allowed to check out the filming locations around town once it begins, as long as they wear masks and follow proper social distancing protocols.

Actors and other on-set crew will also have to follow these protocols and wear masks whenever they aren't shooting a scene.

Overall, Provincetown is full of great year-round activities, making it a highly desirable location to buy a home on Cape Cod. In fact, one reason why "American Horror Story" could be filming in Provincetown is that series writer and creator Ryan Murphy owns a house there and is looking for a way to feature it in a season.

Living in Provincetown puts you close to beaches, nightlife, shopping, and history. While the town is a longer drive to the mainland than any other Cape Cod location, locals prefer this isolation because it allows them to create their own little colony.

Once you live on the Cape, you'll quickly see why P-Town is the choice for so many who relocate to this idyllic part of the world
