Blog / Exploring Our Area / Getting to Know Cape Cod's Dance Schools
Relocating to Cape Cod doesn't mean your family members have to give up the activities they love.
Sure, your kids might see themselves spending more time outdoors and enjoying the weather, but they'll find many of the same pastimes on the Cape that they had at their old home.
For example, the dozens of dance academies and schools on Cape Cod give your kids multiple choices when continuing to follow their passion.
Some of these studios focus on primary offerings while others have competitive teams, so your children can choose based on what's important to them.
Here's a look at some of the dance schools you'll find on Cape Cod.
Falmouth Dance Academy
One of the more prestigious dance schools on the Cape is the Falmouth Dance Academy. This school offers a little bit of everything, as there are jazz, tap, ballet, and tumbling classes for participants of all ages. There are competitive teams, too, if your youngster is a serious dancer.
The school has pre-K classes on weekdays, with other courses taking place on evenings and weekends.
The Falmouth Dance Academy is located on Spring Bars Road near downtown Falmouth in the same complex as Trade Center Bowl.
Dance Designs
Dance Designs sits in a hidden Hyannis location, just north of the Barnstable Municipal Airport. It might seem a little out of the way, but it's only a few minutes from the Cape Cod Mall and accessible from the Mid-Cape Highway.
When you check out Dance Designs, you'll see that they have classes for all age groups, including toddlers and adults. Class offerings include jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, hip hop, and ballet. There are musical theater classes, as well.
Arts Edge Dance Company
On Route 28 in Yarmouth, next to Ryan Family Amusements, is Arts Edge Dance Company. Here, there are classes for all age groups, including ballet, musical theater, tap, jazz, and hip hop. There are also competitive teams in the mini, intermediate, junior, and senior age categories at this facility.
Turning Pointe Dance Studio
Thomas B. Landers Road in East Falmouth is home to Turning Pointe Dance Studio, a facility with classes for all age groups. As a bonus, this school has outdoor courses in the spring, providing a different experience for participants.
As for the classes themselves, there' ballet, hip hop, jazz, pointe, tap, and acro dance, and they offer private lessons, too.
Beth Walsh Dance Center
You'll find the Beth Walsh Dance Center on Falmouth Road in Osterville. This small facility has classes starting for pre-schoolers all the way up to adults. There are jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, ballet, pointe, modern, and theater classes, and the venue is open every day except Sunday, so there are plenty of options available.
Harper Dance Center
In Mashpee, the Harper Dance Center is worth a try. This facility is near Mashpee Commons and focuses mostly on classes for young children. However, there are 14+ and 18+ levels, as well.
You'll find all of the usual suspects here, including ballet, tap, lyrical, hip hop, and contemporary, making this location worth considering if you buy a home in Mashpee.
Classes for Adults
Most of the schools on this list have classes for children, and few offer adult options. However, there are some schools on Cape Cod that focus entirely on dance classes for adults.
Specifically, these schools offer ballroom dancing classes, making them an excellent option for couples who want to learn to dance correctly before the next big event they attend.
Shall We Dance? Cape Cod is operated by certified ballroom dance instructors Stephen and Deirdre Burke. This couple will come to your house to teach you American and Latin ballroom dances or even line dancing.
This service is an excellent option for busy couples because you don't have to worry about heading out to a dance school. They'll come right to you and will work around your schedule.
Another option for learning ballroom dancing is Adam in Chatham. This school offers private ballroom lessons for singles and couples, showing the basics of dances like the Foxtrot, Swing, Rumba, Waltz, Tango, and Salsa.
Finally, there's Ballroom Bliss, a school that offers a couple of different learning options. First, you can have the instructors come to your home to teach you how to dance. They'll put together a program for you, and you can even invite some friends over to make it a group class.
Ballroom Bliss also operates group sessions at the Beth Walsh Dance Centre. These classes are a little less expensive and provide a fun social outing as you learn some moves.
Dance Lessons For the Entire Family
Whether you have a young family with children or you'd like to learn some new dance moves in retirement, Cape Cod has something for you. These classes provide an excellent opportunity to get involved with a program in your chosen community while learning some new skills.
