Don’t Want to Cook Over Christmas? You’ll Have Options on Cape Cod

While many people love cooking for friends and family during the holiday season, there are others who dread it. Let’s face it, preparing a meal for a group is a lot of pressure because if something goes wrong, there will be disappointed people.

Since many restaurants on Cape Cod are small, locally-owned establishments, you won’t find an abundance of eateries open on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. There are dining options, however, and the following venues are either open for Christmas or provide takeaway meals that you can heat the next day, helping to ease your cooking worries.

Dan'l Webster Inn and Spa

At the Dan'l Webster Inn and Spa in Sandwich, you can pick up a turkey dinner to go for $28.95 per person. Each meal is packaged and ready to serve, so all you have to do is heat it on Christmas night and forget about the rest. The dinner comes with corn chowder, baked rolls, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, peas, mushrooms, stuffing, gravy, and, of course, roasted turkey.

Keep in mind that you'll have to place the order for your Christmas dinner by December 20 at 3:00 PM and pick it up by 11:00 AM on December 24.

Hearth 'n Kettle

There's a similar deal for a takeaway Christmas dinner at the Hearth 'n Kettle's locations in Hyannis and Yarmouth on Cape Cod, and Plymouth on the mainland. This traditional Christmas dinner comes with the same items as the dinner at the Dan'l Webster Inn and Spa, except it includes your choice of chicken barley soup or clam chowder and costs $19.99 per person.

You must place your order before 3:00 PM on December 20 and pick your food up by noon on Christmas Eve.

PB Boulangerie

If you're in the mood to head out for dinner on Christmas Eve, check out the prix fixe menu at PB Boulangerie Bistro. The feast costs $95 per person and includes a selection of appetizers, including soup, salads, smoked salmon, and fine cheeses. You can order foie gras, as well, for an additional charge. The entrees on offer include yellowfin tuna, a seafood platter, organic roasted chicken, sirloin steak, and quenelle de Lyon, with Buche de Noel for dessert.

The Pheasant

There's another great Christmas Eve dinner served at The Pheasant, which is right along Main Street in the heart of Dennis. The restaurant is open from 4:00 – 9:00 PM and will have its regular menu available on Christmas Eve. The Pheasant is housed in an old barn with fireplaces inside, creating the perfect Christmas Eve atmosphere for dinner with friends and family. They are also hosting a four course Prix Fixe New Year's Eve menu if you are looking for options.

Sea Crest Beach Hotel

What is there to do between present opening and dinner time on Christmas Day? The answer in Falmouth is to enjoy brunch at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. Between noon and 3:00 PM, you can head to the hotel's restaurant for a full brunch buffet featuring made-to-order eggs, waffles, bread, ham, lamb, swordfish, chicken, vegetables, bacon, sausage, potatoes, berries, salad, yogurt, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. The meal is $45 for adults and $23 for children 12 and under.

Limited seating at the restaurants makes reservations a necessity for the brunch. You can book your table online or call the hotel in advance.

Barnstable Tuscan Cuisine

 

Located right on Main Street, Barnstable Tuscan Cuisine has opened where The Barnstable Restaurant and Tavern used to be. While they may be under new ownership, the italian flare is one not to be missed. The menu is extensive with soups and starters as well as veal, seafood and of course pasta. Give them a try and you will be happy you let them do the cooking.They are open for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and recommend reservations.  Call 508-362-2355 to make reservations for your holiday dinner.

Villaggio Ristorante

Finally, Villaggio Ristorante in Cotuit is open on Christmas Day between noon and 10:00 PM. This restaurant doesn’t do anything special for Christmas, as they’ll be serving their regular menu all day long. You might want to make reservations, however, just to make sure that a table is available for you upon arrival.

As you can see, if you’re one of those people who doesn’t look forward to cooking on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, you’ll have a few options at your disposal this year. Even if you’re committed to hosting company over the holidays, you can order ahead and have a perfectly-cooked meal waiting for them upon arrival.

Christmas on Cape Cod is always memorable, and these establishments allow you to enjoy the season more and spend less time in the kitchen.
